The festive season in India starts with Navratra & Durga Puja moving on to Dhanteras, Diwali & Bhai Duj followed by Weddings, Christmas, New Year and then more weddings. The months starting October stretching up to February is the time when people forget austerity and spend. The biggest beneficiary of festivals 2009 is the Organised Retail industry. This year on Diwali, Tata’s have opened a 20,000 sft TITAN showroom and an equally large CROMA showroom in T Nagar at Chennai. According to an estimate this area attracts 10 million shoppers during Diwali who spend nearly 3000 Crore in festive shopping. Further Mr Kishore Biyani of Future Group says that this will be the biggest Diwali they have ever seen. The group did 75 Crore sales in Electronics on the Dhanteras day alone and expects to sell more than 500 Crore worth of electronic sales during the entire Diwali week.
